"Buck" Miller was inducted into the U.S. Army on 20, November 1942, and left for "basic training" on 9, December 1942. He was made platoon Sergent in the 9th Infantry Division and partisipated in battles first in North Africa at Sened, Maknassy and Bizerte, Then on to Palarmo, Sicily and took Randazzo.. From there he went to England and on to France for D-Day plus 4, They captured a Nazi command near Cherbourg and fought through Chateau-Thierry before battle south of Aachen during the winter. His unit went to Belgium and on to Germany were he fought during the "Battle of the Bulge". He was wounded twice, receiving The Purple Heart for the first in October which was a head wound. The second was in March were he received a morter wound to his left thigh adding a cluster to his Purple Heart. Both the bullet and shrapnel were never removed and gave him problems for the remainder of his life. He received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, numerous campain ribbons and the good conduct medal. He was Honorably Discharged in October 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergent. He was later awarded a medal by the French Government for his service in France.
