The James M. Henderson Post 32 of Oil City, Pennsylvania was chartered by the American Legion Department of Pennsylvania on 22, June 1919. The original charter members were lead by their first Commander George Rickards who partisipated in the caucus in Paris France at the end of World War One and the founding of the American Legion in St. Louis. The posts were numbered by state and was the 32nd post chartered in Pennsylvania. Each state would have a post 32. The posts were named after a Comrade who was loved by his comrades and gave the greatest sacrafice to his unit as was
For many years the post met on the second floor of the GAR post building on East First Street in Oil City. In 1938 the building was purchased by the Legion Hall Association of Oil City Pennsylvania a Chartered non-profit corporation founded by the members of the post to purchase the building for the use of the post as a permanent meeting place.
Edwin F. Day was a charter member of the James M. Henderson Post 32. He served in the Spanish American War and then from 1902 to the end of Worl War -1. He went to Post Everlasting in 1947 and the Flag Pole at Grove Hill Cemetery after his passing was installed and dedicated in his honor by the James M. Henderson Post - 32 in his honor.
Over the years the Post marching band performed all over the Country winning numerous State and National awards.
In 2000 the Hall association purchased the old Cranberry grade school located on Riverside Drive, Oil City, PA. from the Accacia Grotto as a new "handicap accessable" home. The Post continues to meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month.
